Floramedia
Position: Mac Operator / Typographer
Duration: September 2003 - January 2004
Clients: - B&Q - Various companies/plant nurseries all over Europe that sell flowers.
Description: My first real design job after finishing Uni. Typesetting the small plastic labels you get in a plant pot when you buy a plant. If you bought a plant from B&Q in 2003-2004 there's a good chance I designed the label. Floramedia was the largest supplier of plant labels in Europe for many plant nurseries. Meticulous job, often working in 5pt text or lower, spell-checking latin names and color matching flowers leaves against CMYK profiles to be printed on plastic. I learned lots about keeping organised. File names and folder structures were rigid in order to keep tabs on every known shrubbery in the Universe. Heavy ‘Quark’ so had to be a solid typographer, with a high daily quota of labels produced. Image-enhancements. Communication with international 3rd parties and general office knowledge.
I left to persue a more digital based career.
Tools: Quark 6, Photoshop 7, Image Ready, Illustrator, applescripts.
